Depressing/angering as it is, I’ve been reading this voraciously. I appreciate the way he writes “law enforcement” in quotes every time the phrase is used. It just further demonstrates something I’ve long known, which is: the “rule of law” is a myth—laws are created and enforced for political reasons, and often in service of oppressive cruelty rather than any genuine search for “justice”.

I’ve only read the intro, but it already has me seething with anger and copying SO MUCH to use as quotes in my eventual review. The injustice system, as Karakatsanis names it, is so mind-boggling in its cruelty, and this has been so long, LONG before Trump rose to political prominence. What ICE is currently doing to immigrants is absolutely sick… but it was already happening in our jails and prisons every day.
