Almost halfway through and I find myself wondering if Louis was always this butterfly-like in presence, constantly drifting, wings brushing against the edges of morality without ever quite taking flight - his pseudo moral compass is so prominently woven into the narrative that, at times, it feels both admirable and exasperating.
