a country doctor (4/5): enjoyed this anthology collection far more than contemplations. not every story hit, but most did and were far more of a consistently great quality.

the penal colony (5/5): fascinating parable about punitive justice and how “machines” of oppression eventually consume their creators. definitely my favourite kakfa so far with metamorphosis.

the metamorphosis (5/5): profoundly sad and poignant story about disability, labour and duty of care in a family setting. touches on exploitation of children by parents. kafka is able to bounce from comedy to seriousness masterfully here, really loved it

contemplations (2/5): mostly mediocre musings about an assortment of topics. meh

the judgment (3/5): starts of pretty good but gets derailed
