My god the backless dresses that Damien’s women wear are mocking Keera because she wouldn’t be able to wear them without everyone seeing her scars. He’s literally so evil.

Melissa does such a wonderful job of subtly lacing the effects of colonialism into the plot, like the false story of how his life lengthens each time he kills an elf. She truly understands the art of subtly.

I forgot how much she struggles mentally in the first book.
