Having read Normal People, I enjoy the yearning in Sally Rooney’s prose. It’s sensual, and frank when it wants to be. I’m also struck by Rooney’s ability to capture the selfishness in depressives. While it’s an ordeal that deserves all the sympathies, we’re not completely off the hook.
