I'm trying so hard to enjoy this book. So far, the only emotions it has excited in me are for the antagonist (?). He got what was coming to him.

This is so painful. There's nothing happening, not even character development. The big event is over, so now it feels like it's all page stuffer. You'd think it was a great chance to explore the inner conflict after the fact, but it's just not there.
The eccentric professor under whose influence they're supposed to be doing all of this is nowhere to be seen. I can count on one hand how many times he's shown up.
