As this is Tocqueville’s second book about the United States, it could be called, in book publisher’s terminology, a sophomore slump. But the wise student, if he searches enough, can find a few nuggets, such as Tocqueville’s determination that American women are the strongest and smartest women—better than their European sisters.

The difference between a royal army, whose leaders are aristocrats and whose followers are serfs AND a democratic army is that the followers of the leaders are at the zenith of their obedience to the leader (e.g., general) when the ENEMY is closest. Otherwise, the democratic army is “raggedy and I’ll disciplined.”

Interesting how Alexis de Tocqueville , a visitor from France observing American habits noticed how Americans started out believing the majority of their group as truth bringers. Lacking science and medicine books or journals in the early 19th century, Americans went with the majority. So perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by this consistency in the early 21st century!
