for some reason i feel like all the chemistry between alex and darlington disappeared somewhere. maybe there wasn't much of it in the first book either, and i just made something up on my head because my friends were obsessed with them. idk

“She said, ‘You think the devil has horns? Well, so did I
But I was wrong, his hair is combed and he wears a suit and tie
He's nice, polite, he'll catch you by surprise
A smile so bright, you'd never bat an eye’”

saw an edit with makima to this song and immediately thought about darlington. this is so him!

i think i like this part more. maybe it’s because i already know the characters and feel connected to them, so i’m genuinely invested in the story and i really care about alex and dawes. the pacing also feels more balanced this time, the beginning doesn’t drag the way the ninth house did

fulcrum like i genuinely don’t care about anything romantic between these two atp

Ricarda I'm not exactly a Darlington hater, but I don't care about that boy or his relationship with Alex. Like, he's missing for good chunks of both books and that was always alright to me.

fulcrum @Ricarda so true! i don’t hate him either, but i never connected with him enough to actually root for his relationship with alex. she definitely cares about him, and there are some romantic feelings, but they feel more like something in her head or in memories than in the present. bardugo hasn’t really fleshed out their bond yet, and in this book it felt even more lacklustre, even with a few strong words thrown in. kinda relieved i’m not the only one who feels this way 👀

Jo⁷ I went into Ninth House wanting to ship Alex and Darlington, but actually felt so much more chemistry between Alex and Turner
