David Mitchell is fantastic at writing poignant, thoughtful little vignettes that overlap just enough to build into a bigger story.
However, his novels are not the type that I can devour -- they take time, and I usually need to dip in and out.
So I’m pressing pause on this one for now. Note to self: I left off at the “Holy Mountain” chapter.

I appreciate David Mitchell’s ability to write compelling narratives from various perspectives, always paying attention to details. I think I understand the theme is how our lives are connected with those we never meet who may have lived long before or after us.
The “Holy Mountain” chapter is a great microcosm / example of 1900s Chinese history.
