the worst parts of history are repeating themselves it's really hard to not feel devastatingly hopeless reading this.

whyd all the recommenders not warn about the sad ending. I'm too invested to not finish it now, this better not make me cry 😭

haven't read a lot of books that draw you in so completely from the start but this is definitely one. also I love how there's footnotes about relevant history, literature and character/worldbuilding
