He laughed, pulling the towel away from his hips. “Baby girl, I am always good to you,” Jameson countered.

“That's a matter of opinion.”

“And your opinion doesn't matter.”

“You better be careful, Tatum, or my claws will get in too deep for you to ever get away,” he warned her.
His voice was soft, but his words carried weight. They settled on her chest, interfered with her heart beat. She opened her eyes and stared at his ceiling.

“I like it better when you say mean things,” she whispered.

“Why?”

“They don't hurt as much.”

“Oh my, I've struck a nerve. I didn't know Tatum O'Shea had those anymore,”

“How did I find you?” It was obvious that he was thinking out loud.

“That's pretty easy – you made me,” she responded.

“Are you ever scared of me?” he asked, his voice soft.

Tate shook her head. “No, not even a little,” she assured him.

“Sometimes I wonder if maybe you should be,” he added.

“And why is that?”

“Because, I have the strangest feelings about you. Like I want to take you everywhere and have you by my side, but I also want to hold you down. Make you beg and cry,”

“It was a stupid accident, and look what happened. No thank you,” she replied.

“It was probably the best thing that could have happened to me at that time, so I have the opposite view of it,” he laughed.

“I'm not about to take a job just so you can try to have your way with me in some shitty cubicle,” she informed him.

He quirked up an eyebrow. “You'll let your friend fuck you in an alley, but I can't sexually harass you in a cubicle?” he asked.

Tate actually laughed – she couldn't help it.

“I'm not even sure I have a heart to lose anymore,” she replied.

“It's there. Buried underneath piles of used condoms and Jack Daniel's bottles, it's in there somewhere,” he assured her.
