I read this great novel - part of a trilogy - some years back and am now revisiting - prompted by a visit to Stockholm and a visit to the charming Drottningholm Palace (summer).
The story ebbs and flows between the Swedish invaders being up and the Polish nation down and vice versa as the fortunes of war change. If you have not read Sienkiewicz, Poland's master of historical fiction, I can definitely recommend him.
