Meditation one was on creation, and the fact that you do not exist for any reason except that God wants you to and has willed to give you life. You are nothing but ash and your life belongs solely to Him Who created it. It's an excellent beginning to understanding a devoted life.

Short read today but I managed to chew through and get to the meditations, which I'll start tomorrow, Lord willing. I enjoy how very clear St. Francis is on contrition and affection towards sin, it highlights in conviction where in life we still miss sin and offers an opportunity to rid ourselves of this affection through hatred of sin and contrition. Excited to get started on the meditations.
