Why are Tintin and Captain Haddock still vouvoyer-ing each other (hehe, that sounds naughty). Doesn’t going on constant death-defying adventures together warrant a “tu”?

I guess the language is slightly stilted and not really lifelike in Tintin! Even by contemporary standards at the time of their publication! By the way, believe it or not, we have pannels from Tintin et les Sept Boules de Cristal on giant boards in Saint-Nazaire, because some of the events in this album happened in the city 😄 I thought about you reading Le Trésor de Rackham le Rouge when I visited the city yesterday!

Haha, I wonder that is. And very cool! Does the next book take place in France? (I haven’t been looking on Wikipedia or anything, but looking at the Wikipedia article for Les Sept Boules de Cristal now I’m seeing some pretty scary stuff. I didn’t realize this and the last book were written during the Nazi occupation.)
The book following Les Sept Boules de Cristal happen in Peru :)Visibly Hergé avoided active ideological collaboration but still pulished his installements in Le Soir, a newspaper run by collaborationnists... I still tend to think the case of authors like René Barjavel is much more dubious as the latter published a novel called Ravage, glorifying the ideas behind the so-called "révolution nationale", the official ideology of Vichy, especially distrust towards science and return to an agrarian, patriarcal and even polygamous model. Possibly Barjavel couldn't decide where to draw the line and overdid himself in this exercise in political subservience...
