Not sure that a comedy can sustain itself over this many pages—Moore’s Lamb did so, but this one has run out of steam. The plot is still going: it’s King Lear, with some other literary bits mixed in. The jokes are showing their limitations, having been revealed as mostly sex, stupidity, and profanity. A strong start has come to feel cheap and grasping. Let’s see if Moore can bring it home.
