Anneke’s voice is raw, showing both the brutality of abuse and her struggle to find safety, belonging, and love. By this point in the book, it is clear how deeply systems failed her, yet her perspective is also one of survival and reflection. Reading this feels difficult but necessary, especially because of my work with children..it reminds me why protection, empathy, and vigilance matter so much.
