His desire to harvest souls of their scents can be interpreted as a metaphor for the exploitation /assult /loss of innocence experience for humans/ animals that are valued/ desired, aswell as how being beautiful or desirable can really be a curse to those that want to selfishly benefit off of others, much like “Grenouille, the solitary tick, the abomination, Grenouille the Monster”
