An excellent, award winning Spanish middle grade novel about an illegal immigrant Tuareg boy in Spain. The low overall GR rating is school kids being jerks and airing their displeasure about being "forced" to read this in school. 🙄

Barbara K For crying out loud!

Ah, you know how kids are. "Like, I didn't want to read this but I haaaaaaaad to because school maaaaaaade us, and it was soooooo stupid and I hated it, like oh my goooood. School is soooooo dumb!"

I think it more is a judgement of school and being told what they have to do than a judgement of the book itself. Still, hurts the actual book in the long run.

Paul Ataua I wonder how many books we might have liked had we not been tortured with them at school.

You felt tortured? I never did. Maybe that's why I enjoyed a lot of what we read? Hm. Only exceptions: Shakespeare and Milton. The language was just too old for me, although I appreciated Milton's outlook.

Jennifer nyc Good to know, Berengaria, thank you! My sister was turned off to reading in school, but I loved it 🤷🏻‍♀️. There are some middle school books I thought of finally reading, like The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Thanks for putting this out there
