Every deep thinker fears being understood more than he fears being misunderstood.

The vain man is just as pleased with every good opinion about himself that he heras as he suffers from every bad opinion.

Mankind, like any other animal species, produces an excess of abortive, diseased, degenerate, defective, and necessarily suffering specimens; the successful specimens, in men as well, are always the exception.

Everything deep loves masks; the deepest things have a veritable hatred for image and likeness.
