I have this but I'm too scared to read it.. is it sad or lovely?

It's lovely! IIRC, Dewey lived to the ripe old age of 19, if that helps. I was wary of it being a sad story, too, but so far I've only been upset at the beginning before the lively story telling and Dewey's crazy antics cheered me up from then onwards. :D
