For the Notify box to be checked, you now have to use GR in a browser (not app) AND comment on the review in the newsfeed, or on the reviewer's profile page.
If you click through to the review page and comment, or try to check Notify, it won't 'stick'.

Sadly so. Several of us have reported it to GR, and they say their devs are aware of the issue. I'm not holding my breath for a fix.
Thanks for sharing this tip, Cecily! Hoops and hoops keep on appearing on the platform for us to jump through them, it would seem...
If you want this box checked on one of your own reviews, it will continue to 'stick' after you delete the comment. I just tested it out on a recent review.

Hyperbole, but thank you for your thanks, Luís.

I get notifications of likes on my reviews, even if the box is unchecked. Personally, I'm loathe to delete comments as it messes up already flaky notification updates.
If notifications are turned on by default on reviews we write, then my workaround is unnecessary. I was working under the assumption that the box still needed to be checked to get any notifications. I didn't want a test comment from myself permanently on my reviews, just to be able to check the box and get notifications! :)
Christina wrote: "If notifications are turned on by default on reviews we write, then my workaround is unnecessary..."The box is not checked by default on my own reviews, and I can no longer actively check it. But I do still get notifications of likes.
It makes no sense!
I find that I get notifications of likes but not comments. So if i get a like, I check my review to see if a comment is included.
We all keep thinking things like notifications should work because we mistakenly believe this is a social site instead of a funnel to Amazon sales.

Rod wrote: "We all keep thinking things like notifications should work because we mistakenly believe this is a social site instead of a funnel to Amazon sales."I've always known that as we don't pay to use the site, we're not the customers, but the product. However, product drives sales. I've lost count of how many books I've bought or borrowed because of reviews by GR friends, and I'm not the only one.
I think it's too late for GR to try a premium model for users (the site is slowly dying), but maybe the opposite could work: some sort of rewards for those who create the most valuable content?
Maybe if enough people report it? Not really holding my breath, but where should I report it just in case?
