It's okay so far. Too early to say anything definitive. Writing is fairly basic, but pretty much at the level for tie-in fiction.

Plot twist!
Snark aside, I like the political maneuvering. More of this please, less shooty-shooty bang bang (or whatever sound phasers make).

Well, this got a bit better. The space battle was a bit passe, but the intelligence gathering was decent.

Still fine, I guess.

I'm mixed on this. On one hand, I like the 'grittier' side of things, even if it's atypical for Star Trek. On the other, I can't believe Seven is this naive - didn't she spend years on Voyager in Starfleet? Certainly some regs should have washed off on her by now.

Still enjoying it.

Finally back to reading this book, and back to enjoying it. Pretty atypical of standard Star Trek, but that's probably why I like it (yeah, I'm not much of a Trekker/Trekkie/whatever). Love the sense of grit, action is good, and Seven is a fun character, plus hey, weapons other than phasers. I guess this is set on the outskirts of the Federation, so that justifies the atonality I guess.

Well, this picked up a bit. This kind of espionage feels a bit in keeping with the Federation's darker aspects.

Can't say I'm fond of this. The writing in of itself isn't bad, but it's part of a shift in Star Trek towards "dark and gritty" (and in this case, seedy) that IMO, really doesn't fit the setting. Still, treating this objectively, it's fine, I guess.
