The book should have ended here. Yes, the following interlude and the epilogue perhaps complete the story a little more, but the ending never felt right to me. And it seems other people would agree. I think even the film does the eventual ending - tomorrow’s task - better. But if it had ended here, it would have been perfect. Because it’s beautiful. Bittersweet, but absolutely beautiful.

I might just properly cry, that last passage was just devastating. Doesn’t matter how many times I read the book or watch the movies, it’s always just absolutely tragic.

Here we go. The hardest bit to talk about. THAT scene. The one destined from the moment the pen touched the page to cause controversy, and cause controversy it did. I understand why it was done, but it doesn’t make it pleasant. You can sadly tell that King was at the worst point in his drug abuse, but the chapter as a whole ignoring that scene was both insanely epic and insanely sad. Shed more tears.

Unbelievably pissed off that of all the numbers, I’ve got 67 pages to go on the book.

That said, I can’t believe I forgot how utterly amazing the Ritual of Chüd is, I was fully tensed up, I could peel my eyes away from the page, it was like watching an actual film, it pulled me so far in it was just masterfully written. I love this book so much man, it’s just incredible.

Forgot how insanely good the final battle is, like it’s so hard to convey something so truly epic in scale and stakes through words, but Stephen King gets it spot on. You can feel every emotion, visualise the horrors, hear the screams. It’s perfect. Whether you like him or not, there’s no denying that Stephen King can WRITE!!!
