The arc of the Story is about how love creates a beloved cosmos for love’s sake. Or as my friend Fr. Kenneth Tanner says, “God loves the world God made, including humanity. And then God became what God made” (p. 218).

God is not reconciled to us through retribution; we are reconciled to him to forgiveness (p. 212). Amen!!

I underlined and underlined this whole chapter but my favorite(challenging) quote is:

“God-in-Christ counters retribution with restoration, justice-as-punishment with justice-as-mercy, wrath with forgiveness, and death anxiety with resurrection life” (p. 203).

“I believe the Word of God is inspired, infallible, and inerrant. And when he was about eighteen years old, he grew a beard” (p. 163).

Ha! Love it.

“For Greek-speaking Jews and Christians, LOGOS speaks of the ‘I AM’— so prevalent in the Torah and John—the LOGOS is the eternal presence that ‘presences’ (verb); it is the ground of all being. This LOGOS is also present before God and is God” (p. 148).

Vladika puts it this way: “The fire of the glory of the love of God extends to all, and our orientation to the fire of love determines whether we experience it as heaven or hell. But we hold to the great hope that love is a cleansing fire, able to purge even the darkest of hearts” (p. 56).

Yes!!!
