Started this while I'm on my period and I've cried like 3 times so far. That's once for every ten pages. This book will devastate me.

The book's sitting at solid 4 stars for now. Let's see if the ending is visceral enough to bump it to a full 5.

The primary question the story poses so far seems to be whether the defining trait of a human is their intelligence or their ability to feel. It's an interesting debate especially in the larger context of Charlie's character, seeing as now that his IQ has skyrocketed he seems to be less of the understanding man he was at the start of the book. Eager to see how this debate further unfolds.

StardustReader I've had this book on my TBR for so long, and every time I see this book, I feel I should read it but then I'm put off because of the fear of bad disability rep (looking at you "Me Before you").

Don't let that fear hold you back! I'm on page 50 right now and so far I haven't read anything that made me raise my eyebrows. The only "issue" I suppose is the use of the R-word to describe the MC's condition but that is consistent with the contemporary semantics of the period in which the book was written.

I'm curious, what was your primary issue with the disability rep in Me Before You?

Maybe I'll give it a try then.

Well, the main reason is the harmful ableis messages that the book promotes, like a disabled life is not worth living. Based on the reviews and blog posts that I've read from my fellow crips, this book is not trying to show the authentic story of a quadriplegic person.
And yes I haven't read the book and I never will. I have too much of ableism to contend in my real life, I don't need more.
Anyway, if you'd like to read those blog posts that I mentioned before, you can find them by searching the following post titles.
