finished the titular essay and as good as joan didion is, i don’t enjoy reading about people on drugs. ik that’s not the point of the essay and how it’s done great work in showing the underbelly of Haight and the counterculture movement of the 60s. But in the same way it’s labourious for sober people to listen to drunk people go on, i found myself dredging through this one. Personal preference that’s all.
