A very emotional read for me. My mum and maternal grandparents were in Singapore as civilians at this time, and my mum was only 7 years old when the Japanese invaded. Thankfully my mum and grandmother were able to escape on the Empress of Japan (renamed the Empress of Scotland).

A lot more detail— much of which is frankly horrific— than my grandfather’s diary. An important read.
