On the origin of Desis and some principles of state selection: describes history of American immigration policy— at first valuing highly skilled immigrants to combat the USSR space war when it came to innovation, then needing cheap labor which eventually lead to quotas on south Asians as migrants from the Mexican border filled these jobs, and then again in late 90s for high skilled jobs

Of a Girmit Consciousness
—background of desi racism in the US, origins of class and racial divisions within desi communities and between racial minorities on the subcontinent and the Us
— desis are forever immigrants in the US, and will never be accepted for anything more than labor, and even that is beginning to be hated

Of sly babas and other gurus: criticism of chopra and new-age medicine especially found among white liberal middle and upper class— emphasis on societal and political determinants that impact health and how apolitical new-age medicine is antithetical to India as a historically a political radical entity

Samiha Reza Also important note that all policy was meant to be temporary immigration— only wanted to exploit immigrant labor but actively prevented them from creating lives here. Also origin of model minority myth that has been shifting with influx of family reunification migration (less highly educated migrants filling low-income work like taxi driving). Has lead to racism among Desi elite (“these poor Indians are giving us a bad rep, ruining progress, making us look like the Mexicans”) ignoring the fact that this concept means that to the white man, south Asians are actually no different than Mexicans we will always be forever immigrants
