I loved this book when I read it in the 1990s, but I have really been struggling with it, except for the initial few chapters which were a nostalgic return. Meta fictional elements maybe lose charm when we know the secrets of a book? So, I will park this for a while. I am not giving up on it, but I will return. Perhaps it was just too much of a leap to go from high fantasy into this.
