I don't think it's a good commentary on Rousseau if to demonstrate how stupid he was, you need to invent a woman (some paragon of virtue village girl who's never seen a man in her life before the hero), just to say that the hero can't fall for her cuz she is too ignorant, and he ends up falling in love with another paragon of virtue girl who has education unlike the village girl

There's a lot of repetition over "he's bad" - "no, you're mistaken" - "maybe he's good" - "maybe not"

Not sure what happened. Did Lady Delacour have the surgery or did the doctor told her it wasn't needed?

Oh no, the rumours and women's fragile reputation!

Funny how Lady Delacour mentions she is NOT Mrs Mitten to Camilla (Camilla by Frances Burney), yet we immediately see her acting like Mrs Mitten

so, this Clarence Hervey is rumoured to have 10k a year (while Belinda has 100 a year), AND in the beginning Belinda overhears Hervey mock Belinda's relations and swearing to not get caught in Belinda's matchmaking aunt's schemes

I wonder what book this reminds me of? (this is the OG though, or, at least, it was published before THAT book)
