This is more, like, a dark lit fic/character study, with some slightly spooky elements, but mostly it's just about a character unravelling.

I do notice this more with books I'd shelf as dark lit-fic for sure & it's so frustrating! I'm interested to see your thoughts on this one, because based solely on the synopsis, this one seems like something I'd love.
