There was a long section post-escape where this really dragged - things happened, but were so easily resolved & of little cause-or-effect that it felt like filler so TK could say "it's not just romance in this section, I promise" (but it really was). Things finally picked up on the journey back, though I dislike Halla treating Sarkis like a science experiment, casually forgetting his humanity as it suits her.

I not vibing with the romance. Partly it's that this uses the exact tropes/kinks from Paladin's Grace, & partly the characters feel Flanderised before even 50%. The ratio of romance to fantasy-plot skews too romance for me, even more than PG, with plot disappearing for too long.
* I think PG was technically written later than SH but PG did everything better--& with comedy--so SH feels like a worse initial draft.
