Wouldn’t agree with you more. I find that there are a few like whom you have rightly mentioned. You can pick and choose those who are sincere book lovers for whom reading is a hobby and you can tell who is genuine and who is not

I receive a couple of fake friend requests every month. Female. All male friends. Currently reading zero books. Just joined. 9-10 books “read.”Sometimes all with one star. Classics with one star lol. Have gotten DM from some. Telling me they loved a book I did. Follow it up with a professional review that was obviously lifted from somewhere. Send another message asking for my email. It’s the same routine. I ignored one to see what would happen and got a nasty, insulting DM because I wouldn’t respond. I should’ve taken a screenshot 😂
The idea of using goodreads as a dating platform is wild to me!

I have closed my messages for those who aren't friends. But sometimes by mistake I accept someone and immediately they send a message to know how I'm doing. lol
By the way, just now I had a friend request from the Rock! Lucky me!

It's very satisfying to exchange ideas over books or even as you said have a 'date' with a like-minded person, but these people I mentioned have nothing to offer and as soon as one adds them, send messages that have nothing to do with books.
