Skipping around here a bit -- but confused why #74 belongs in a book ostensibly about "tools for thinking". Said chapter merely seems to illustrate 1) the dissimilar success conditions for philosophical work and for scientific work, and 2) that neither philosophers nor scientists are free from the temptation of selfish impulses, despite lofty claims to the absolute logical purity of philosophical and scientific work
