as i head into the final stretch-what seems to be the novels climax, i get the sense that a secondary function of the first 300 pgs Dara is training the reader how to read this book.

while considering my most recently read books, im convinced realism does not best reflect our mirrored selves. our modernity. our institutions. our failings. our apart-ness. our search for meaning among present-day dreck. ive found meaning, something that approximates spiritual meaning, and ontological respite in the canon of so-called 'difficult novels'.

another observation:
-my copy's marginalia is terrific. w/r/t Akhenaton, posited to be the first monotheist, at the bottom of the page theres a blue ink scribble that reads, somewhat incongruously, 'CORPORATIONS=PEOPLE'.

observations: -i am ~30% finished with the novel and the 'plot' has yet to resemble anything close to the synopsis.
-ive encountered a smattering of m dashes, ellipses, colons, semicolons, commas, hyphens, and dashes but not on single period. 142 pages in and ive been reading the same sentence since page 1.
