So far one of the best World War II historical fictions I've read! It's just that the characters feel so alive, and the dialogues contain jargon typical of the era, and the women depicted are so brave. And it's also a subject not often broached in historical fiction. So that makes for a very good start!

I'm really liking how this book both portrays the terrible side of the nurses' war (the wounds, the terror, etc.), and also their friendships, and now Annie's relationship! It makes for a nice contrast.

Finally getting back to this! And remembering why I liked it so much! I still very much like Annie, the main character, and her friends. And also the fact that the war is kinda omnipresent all the time. Also surprised to see another present timeline chapter, and I don't know why!

Still loving this! The emotions the nurses and civilians feel at all times are very well described, and I looooove the friendships Annie built in the AANS. The dialogues are also full of Australian "slang", which is weird but also good, in a way?
