Well, I've been reading Good Omens lately and that one's got a perfect line for what I thought of how this ended: that one went down like a lead balloon.

I thought this was all foreshadowing the Blood Pact, but this last bit makes me doubt. Tanith is gone, but... who's to say they are the last Tanith? Maybe some got off-world before? It intrigues.

Also, I don't feel for this romance. Two characters meet, they don't hit it off. Then they go to a deadly danger and now they do. It's codependency. Wish they'd brought it up. Seemed clever enough to notice.

Interesting to see the scouts stumped.

It feels strange, reading a flashback story in present-tense.

Also, one of Abnett's trademark misdirections. I'm not fooled. I know Corbec isn't dead yet for a fact because Sturm is still in service and he left before Corbec did. "It's what Corbec would've done" makes for a rather clumsy bit in this context, anyway: it should be "It's what Corbec would do."

Nice to see him again, anyway. Left an impression.
