message 1: by Jeremiah (new) - added it

Jeremiah Legendary king, had he lived longer parliamentarianism might've died.

message 2: by Илья (new)

Илья Дескулин Parliamentarianism made the UK great. Absolutism was hinderance to modernizing and effective dealing with opposition to regime.

message 3: by Jeremiah (new) - added it

Jeremiah Strongly disagree. England was already modernising rapidly under the Stuart's, Charles IIs reign saw very significant developments in the organisation of the government and the navy. Cromwell is another case in point of the power of the leviathan.

message 4: by Илья (new)

Илья Дескулин From what you've said I don't get whether leviathan is a good thing or not.

message 5: by Jeremiah (new) - added it

Jeremiah By power I suppose I mean success. All Cromwell's efforts just to recreate everything exactly the same, albeit much more effective than under Charles I. We were much better governed when parliament had far less power and the King far more.
