Sounds like a Viking-era set up for a joke. After a raid, the suitably named Grimur, boy monk Martin, and a mute mead-wife survive the massacre. How they'll fare on the depopulated shore's the concern of this deft Scots author, known for his plays more than his fiction. His prose carries a wry, postmodern air, drifting in omniscient voice and a spare, irreverent voice.
