I've been interested to learn that in some cultures which had women warriors, the Scythians and some of their neighbors, the women were horseback archers. With the speed of the horse and the ranged weapon, a woman's smaller size and usually lesser strength is no longer a disadvantage. I didn't know that it's important to shoot when the horse is completely off the ground, but it makes sense.
