As a parent of young kids I usually hate how children are written in fiction but Awali is such a realistic, endearing character. “Just because I am young doesn’t mean I don’t understand when something is wrong!”

I love when two prickly people begrudgingly become friends

I love meeting a villain and realizing they aren’t just pure evil…because they are going to have an excellent villain origin story that is realistic.
