The author seems to have done the bare minimum research into orcas, having a character speak on wild-caught orcas, while there hasn't been one in the USA for at least 35 years (the book takes place in California, so I'm not including China&Russia). Then the MC is baffled when she is fired for speaking out of turn as if she did not already know it was a bad move to make on a whale-watching ship.A simple Google search.

If a mermaid doesn't show up im the next 50 pages I might put this down. So much back story and character development that is taking place before I even have a chance to care because of their actions, not because of their sob story.
