this was a lovely coming-of-age story with strong women characters and girl protagonist, solid boy characters, loyal friendships, & found family, which they need because they're dealing with problematic birth family dynamics, magic, and an attempt to usurp the throne. then they all set out into the world on their own paths to learn more about themselves and who they want to be.
