It boggles my mind that people will hang onto old cars that COULD be worth something if they were fixed up and they just…let the car rot instead. So sad.

Both Herbert Hoover and Truman raised funds for libraries in their name. “Hoover replied, ‘One of the important jobs of our very exclusive Trade Union is preserving libraries.’”

1,000 times YES.

Discussing the “DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN” picture. “…would become iconic, a timeless commentary on the fallibility of polls, the virtues of perseverance, and the trustworthiness of the press.”

“Politics was different then,” Claire said. “It wasn’t as mean. Politics today is mean. People respected each other.” (Said in 2008. It hasn’t gotten any better.)

Martin Van Buren didn’t believe the Federal Government had the responsibility to repair the National Road, so voted to not fund it. People living around it were upset and when he was stumping in their area for re-election, an “accident” caused his carriage to breakdown, causing him to have to walk through deep mud for help…happened in Indiana, TWICE. Yeah, don’t think you’ll get re-elected.

There is a special circle in Hell for David C. Stephenson. Not going to say all that he did, just that it was horrible and he deserved everything he got.

Truman loved to speed, but his wife kept an eye on him. So he was in the left lane, doing 55 in a 70 zone on the PA Turnpike. I would have been pulling out my hair if I was stuck behind him. GET IN THE RIGHT LANE IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE THAT SLOW!!! He was pulled over. Even at that speed cops can’t tell who is behind the wheel.

PA Turnpike, the first of its kind! “The tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike were supposed to be lifted once the bonds sold to finance construction had been retired. Instead, however, the commission that operated the turnpike used toll revenue to finance new projects, setting in motion a constant need for tolls.” Not happy, Jan.

“The United Nations hasn’t changed much since Harry visited in 1953-and I’m not talking about its seeming inability to solve the world’s problems.” Ooohhh!!! BURN!!! Also, true. They aren’t really primed to want to do so. No job security if world peace actually HAPPENED, you know? Who wants to give up power and money? Not the UN, I am sure.
