This story takes place mostly in San Fransisco, and partly in Michigan. Also, some of the main characters visit Chinatown in this book. I know that they are in San Fransisco because it says "Lately, Gilda had been making an effort to tell the truth... she would do everything possible to make the lie come true... she would now have to find a way to go to San Fransisco". This shows that she had promised herself to go.

This book has a lot of subtle foreshadowing, so it was fun and easy to make predictions about what could happen next. I predicted that Gilda and Juliet would go up into the tower, I thought this because of a couple "dreams" that happened in the story as well as the sleepwalking and sleeptalking that the Splinter father and daughter had. Also Gilda was a very curious girl, so I thought it was bound to happen that way.

This book is told in a 3rd person omniscient, it is told by a narrator that knows and describes each characters thoughts and feelings. I know this because the narrator tells the story and says what each character is thinking and their emotions and opinions, such as things like "feeling disapointed" or "said Mr. Splinter dismissively" These show that the narrator knows the characters opinions, and clearly states them.

The protagonist of this book is Gilda Joyce, who is a curious teenager who enjoys writing and investigating. She has ginger hair and freckles, and also has a blond, skinny, and quiet cousin who is a big part of this story as well. Gilda can be known to be annoyingly eccentric girl but these features can be likeable or not likeable depending on if you enjoy being around that kind of person!

I think the genre's of this book are fiction, mystery, and humor because this book is not a true story. Also the main character is trying to solve a mystery about her cousins house and family, and a humourous twist with lines such as "There were times when Gilda wished her brother would create a computer program to send himself into a distant galaxy". I think this quote is both creative and funny!

I like the book that I'm currently reading because I think that it has a good plot so far, and the characters are developed nicely! I also like that the wording is pretty detailed when describing something. The book has many cool characters that each have nice personality. Lastly I like that this book is almost like a mystery book with the main character solving problems throughout the story.
