I'm surprised this book was only rated 299 times (14 reviews). This book is reputed to be masterful, and at first glance it looks very interesting & promising, and I'm very much looking forward to reading it.

I'm reading the first American edition, hardcover, from 1968. Incredibly, for a book that's almost 50 years old, it's in great condition: other than the fact that it's missing a dust jacket, it's just like new.
