V~ How would you rate it so far? This is one of those stories i won’t ever pick up, personally. I like Meatbun, but this one is too… yeah no. I personally feel like it has too much SA for my liking and there’s too many cliché tropes. But that’s just me.

ok so this is the second time im reading vol5, after vol4 i caught up w the entire series so i can speak on it as a whole.

honestly? is a guilty pleasure. it is one of the most unhinged things ive ever read plot wise and the main couple… idk why i love them sm😭 definitely not for everyone and i agree about the SA, especially in the later parts of the story there is one scene that doesn’t sit right w me in any way. so is one of those books that i somehow enjoy but wouldn’t necessarily recommend l
for me is a 3.5/5 just bc im biased 🙂 sorry for the long response lol

No, no don’t feel bad! I asked for a reason! Haha. Interesting. How does your rating work? What would you consider a 5 star?

I just have seen so many reviews saying it’s pretty dark. I and vicariously reading it through a friend of mine. She loves the book, but as she tells me chapter by chapter, I do tend to have different opinions.
What about the plot?
What are your thoughts on the mental illness.
Do you love both characters? What do you like most about them?
Angst wise, what would you rate it?

Sorry for the many questions haha

noo i love yapping about this book so thank u for asking haha

well i dont have a set in stone rating system, it really depends on how much i enjoyed the book, how much the issues i had w it bothered me and as well as how i found the characters, so it would depend from book to book.

the plot… it is dark, for sure and u cant really tell what direction is taking until volume 2 and thats because it progresses really slowly since the novel seems to prioritize the interactions between the main couple, especially in the beginning.

the depiction of mental illness in this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. it definitely isnt the best 😭 i think what helps its case a bit is that the fictional mental illness depicted is (spoiler) the direct result of taking RN-13 (the fictional drug). also the way i see it what truly drove he yu insane wasnt the illness alone but also his circumstances so is a little complicated

by the end of the book i did love both characters, but i’ll admit i didnt like them from the first volume 😞 i often see them getting misunderstood (especially xie qingcheng, the ml) when it comes to the decisions they make throughout the series. i loved his progress as the story advanced and how we as the audience got to understand him better the more u read. and he yu.. i see him as a product of the circumstances, he can be interesting/ fun to read about, but definitely don’t expect some insane redemption arc since the story definitely doesn’t try to redeem him (i see a lot of people comparing his character journey w mo rans from erha and getting disappointed)

as for the angst, it is also a angsty novel (really angsty). the characters suffer constantly up until the very end. it does feel pointless sometimes 😭 i think what makes up for it is the ridiculousness of certain situations, one second i was crying and the next i was staring at my screen in disbelief 😭😭

i hope i explained everything well im typing this in the bus 🥀
