In reference to kindergarten: “We are sending them to a place that completely undermines their own instincts to learn.” I’m sure I’ll add more to this in my review if the author continues down this path of school-bashing, but I couldn’t disagree more.

This bullying tangent😑 Author says something about kids being “psychologically safer” at home. Please. If your kid is so sensitive you have to shield them from potentially experiencing some teasing from other kids, you’re making the case for them NOT to be homeschooled.

“Homeschooling is not about ticking boxes.” This from a person who created a movement called 1000 Hours Outside that has associated worksheets literally for the express purpose of checking boxes for every hour outside instead of simply enjoying the outdoors…

She keeps referencing a “slip of paper” or “rolled up parchment” as if a diploma is all traditional school amounts to. I’ve never once heard a teacher tell us we’re working toward that and never felt that way in the slightest. What an odd idea.

This book certainly references an awful lot of other books…yawn. Not my style. Also did public school hurt you, Ginny? When she says her homeschool kids are flourishing, how is that defined? And is that because of or in spite of their schooling? Food for thought.

Okay so she’s now claiming kids don’t need to learn to read at age 5 (and even possibly shouldn’t) because their visual proprioceptors haven’t fully developed. This has been debunked by my eye doctor husband, thanks. What does she have against kids learning to read at a young age??

Individualized learning…ah, what an amazing concept in THEORY. It’s a shame that child’s first job (or just the “real world” in general) won’t be personalized to them. Not expecting your child to abide by any societal norms is not setting them up for success.

Apologies for the barrage of updates but this rich. Author bashes students being on devices in between classes at school (which I agree is super sad) BUT then proceeds to talk about how her kids “stumbled across” Dude Perfect on YouTube and are learning literacy from them. Y’all. These roasts are just writing themselves🤣

I’m sorry but has this author spent half a chapter talking about how homeschooling can allow children the opportunity to learn more about rocks by joining a rock club?? Not a very compelling argument…
