This is not a Sleeping Beauty retelling, IMO. No iteration of Princess Aurora even exists within it, and I’m disappointed I wasted my time on it. There are plenty of good ideas in theory with the dark fairytales and D&D-esque magic angles, but the execution falls frustratingly flat. The storytelling feels rushed, and the characters are thinly drawn, lacking the depth needed to make me care about them.

I thought Briar Girls would be my cup of tea, since the description likens it to The Cruel Prince meets A Curse So Dark and Lonely — both of which I utterly adore — but so far this book is nothing at all like either.
