The writing is decent but the Cel are so obviously based on the Roman Empire it’s a bit distracting. Other territories are also poor references to real world cultures and places. And if I have to deal with more of this “s/he is the most beautiful/handsome person ever” I’m going to hurt my eyes from how hard they’re rolling.

That is to say, the fixation feels icky. Not that there are only a few white people.

jensen is weirdly fixated on the reader understanding that white people are the minority in this series. Which, from a white author, feels a bit icky to me.

This author has been hit-or-miss for me so I’m not holding my breath with this book. It started out strongly but I’m already feeling a deep sigh coming over me at the FMC’s actions.
